Bahariya Oasis:
Bahariya Oasis is located 200 miles from Cairo and serves as a jumping off point for many safari trips into the desert, as it offers immediate access to the stunning landscapes of the White Desert.
Bahariya Oasis was formed by dark colored volcanic rocks surrounded by mountains and black rocks full of quartz. Bahariya Oasis has several palms and trees of different kinds such as guavas, mangos, and olives.
Bahariya Oasis includes 5 villages Mariya, El Qasr, Zabu, Al Heiz, and Bawiti (the capital of the Oasis). The name of Bahariya comes from the Arabic word “Bahr” which means the sea because the Mediterranean Sea was covering all the oasis millions of years ago.
Black Desert:
The Black Desert lies near Bahariya Oasis, north of the White Desert. Black Desert was named by black because of the existence of the mountains covered with a layer of black basalt rocks and volcanic rocks that emitted from the volcanic hills millions of years ago.
The black desert has also some red hills with ferruginous sandstone (Sandstone rich in iron minerals) and earthy minerals rich with irons which gave them the red color.
These mountains on the yellow sands of Western Desert paint a charming picture of the Egyptian desert and make it an attractive destination for all travelers all over the world.
El Heiz Village:
El Heiz Village lies beside the Black Desert, which takes its name from the pebbles which adorned the surface like burnt breadcrumbs.
This is dark brown, Oligocene iron pyrite and black basalt from the early Miocene Era and formed the top crusts of the sandstone layers created in earlier ages. These pebbles are spread over the sand combined with the nummulites and limestone concretions of other geological periods.
The ruins of the Roman fortress of Qasr Masuda at El Heiz which is one of the most northerly of the Roman garrisons in the Western Desert were constructed, so troops could guard and protect trade routes and control movement in the region.
Indulge in a delectable lunch and you then continue:
Valley of Agabat:
Agabat, famous for the ‘Beautiful Valley’, is in the Western Desert region of Egypt and generally is the stop off destination for tourists on their way to Bahariya Oasis.
There are no settlements at all in Agabat as the land is so rough and extreme temperatures in the summer months would make living extremely difficult.
Despite Agabat is smaller and considered a small valley in comparison to the Bahariya area, it is very impressive in its own distinctive way. With beautiful mountain formations and many white cliffs faces similar to the White Desert.
The sides of the mountains of Agabat are higher and steeper than the mountains of the way leading to Bahariya and Farafra. Centuries ago, there was a river valley at the lowest point of the Agabat Valley which nature strangely formed it in an unusual position making water to be raised up from it instead of going downwards.
White Desert:
The White Desert in Egypt is one of the several national reserves of this country, which is a small area in the west of Egypt, 500 km from capital, Cairo.
White Desert in Egypt is part of the Sahara Desert with is about 300 km², located along the road between the oases of Bahariya and Farafra.
Millions of years ago, there was an ocean floor here, but after the gathering of water and drainage there by the aid of weathering and erosion factors remained karst limestone formations that formed stunningly beautiful and bizarre landscapes such as devil's tables and mushrooms. Getting to the White Desert is not easy, but it is a must-visit destination for any traveler to Egypt.
Prepare yourself for dinner and then spending a peaceful night’s sleep at the desert campsite.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Day 5: Continue Sahara Tour – Back to Cairo
Today’s breakfast in the desert and your guide takes you to discover:

They are unique hills made of over 12 types of crystal-like stones that combine to form a stunning natural look. The mountain is characterized as one of the most impressive natural areas in the White Desert Reserve.
