Day 2: Highlights of Luxor West Bank
Breakfast onboard and you will join your guide to visit:
Queen Hatshepsut Temple:
Mortuary Temple of Queen Hatshepsut was constructed as a tribute to Hatshepsut's reign and her accomplishments during her time as Pharaoh. The temple was built on a grand scale, with two large courtyards surrounded by towering limestone walls painted with images of Hatshepsut and her family. Inside the walls were numerous chambers, including a sanctuary dedicated to Amun-Ra, the chief god of Egypt at that time.
Valley of the Kings:
Being surrounded by villages and temples, the Valley of Kings is hidden away from the thieves searching for treasures. The ancient valley site crystalized the Egyptian’s traditions and beliefs with its triangular-shaped summit. The Qurn mountain associates with the pyramids’ shape that stands for the sun god Re. The steep sides of the triangle represent the sun rays, guiding the royals to ascend to heaven and meet God Ra. Tucked away in the bedrocks wearing the cloak of invisibility, the Valley of the Pharaohs stood!
Colossi of Memnon:
The Colossi of Memnon is 18 meters high and each one of them weighs 720 tons. They are carved from single blocks of sandstone. They are two-seated king statues on a throne ornamented, representing the pharaoh wearing the royal headdress of the Nemes, protected by the divine cobra. The hands of the king are resting on his knees, and he directs his face eastwards toward the Nile River.
You will return to the cruise ship for lunch and you will start sailing to the next dock. Overnight onboard
Day 3: Visiting Kom Ombo & Edfu Temples
After enjoying a good breakfast onboard, you will discover:
Temple of Edfu:
The Temple of Edfu is considered as one of the best-preserved ancient structures in the country. This stunning temple was dedicated to the Falcon God Horus, and it was constructed during the Ptolemaic period between 237 and 57 BC. The temple's construction started under Ptolemy III and was finished by Ptolemy XII. The Temple of Edfu presents precious glances into the religious practices and architectural proficiency of ancient Egypt which makes it an important destination for both historians and tourists.
Continue sailing to Kom Ombo to explore:
Kom Ombo Temple:
The Temple of Kom Ombo located in Kom Ombo, Upper Egypt. This magnificent temple is unique as it was dedicated to two Gods: Sobek, the crocodile god of fertility and the Nile, and Horus, the falcon-headed god. The Kom Ombo temple goes back to the Ptolemaic period, specifically from around 180 to 47 BC. The Temple of Kom Ombo is famous for its architectural brilliance and historical significance, presenting a deep background about ancient Egyptian worship and the great importance of the Nile in their life.
You will sail down the Nile towards Aswan and you will spend the night aboard.
Day 4: Aswan Landmarks
The 4th day of your Nile River Cruise tours from El Gouna includes a guided trip to:
Philae Temple:
The Philae Temple was built by the last dynasty of ancient Egypt, the Ptolemaic. It is dedicated to Isis, the goddess of healing, birth, and magic, her husband Osiris, and their son Horus. The temple is one of the last places where ancient Egyptian religion survived after Christianity swept the shores in 550AD.
The Unfinished Obelisk:
The Unfinished Obelisk was carved using primitive tools such as chisels and hammers made from copper or bronze alloys. The workers would have had to work carefully in order to avoid damaging the stone while carving out intricate details such as hieroglyphics or other symbols. Despite their efforts, cracks began appearing in the stone during construction which eventually led to its abandonment before completion.
The High Dam:
The Great Aswan Dam is one of the most famous buildings in Egypt, after the much older pyramids of Giza. Its construction has made it possible to regulate the floods of the Nile River, strengthening the barriers built previously. The dam has 12 power generators each of 175 megawatts and produces energy for more than 2 gigawatts. It also generates more than half of the electricity needed by Egypt and in the 1970s it allowed almost all Egyptians to have an electrical connection for the first time.
Back to your river cruise in Aswan to enjoy lunch and spend the remainder of the day onboard.
