Bahariya Oasis, located about 200 miles from Cairo, is the gateway to Egypt’s western desert. Surrounded by black volcanic mountains, it’s rich in natural springs, palm groves, and fruit trees like guavas, mangos, and olives.

The oasis includes five main villages — Mariya, El Qasr, Zabu, Al Heiz, and Bawiti (the capital). Its name comes from the Arabic word "Bahr" meaning sea, as it was once submerged by the Mediterranean millions of years ago.

Black Desert:
