Tour Itinerary: Aswan Highlights Day Trip
Enjoy the highlights of your Aswan day tour as you meet your private expert guide and begin exploring the city’s most magnificent sights, including:
Aswan High Dam:
The Aswan High Dam is one of Egypt’s most impressive modern achievements. Built to control the Nile’s flooding and provide electricity, the dam created the vast reservoir known as Lake Nasser. Located near the border between Egypt and Sudan, construction began in 1960 and was completed in 1970, when it was officially inaugurated by President Gamal Abdel Nasser.
The Unfinished Obelisk:
The Unfinished Obelisk is the largest ancient obelisk ever discovered in Egypt and would have stood 140 feet tall. Carved from Aswan’s red granite, it was abandoned due to a flaw in the stone and is believed to have been commissioned by Queen Hatshepsut.
Afterward, enjoy a delicious oriental lunch at a Nile-view restaurant, before continuing your Aswan day trip with a visit to:
Philae Temple:
Among Egypt’s many impressive temples, Philae stands out as one of the most enchanting. Originally built by Ptolemy II between 380–360 BC on an island south of Aswan, it was dedicated to the goddess Isis. In the 1960s, UNESCO relocated the temple to Agilkia Island to save it from rising waters caused by the High Dam.
After your visit, you’ll be comfortably transferred back to your hotel or Nile cruise in Aswan by private A/C vehicle, marking the end of your Aswan Highlights Day Trip.
