Aswan High Dam:

It was built between 1960 and 1970, during the reign of President Gamal Abd El-Nasser and is considered one of the most important modern engineering projects in Egypt. Its main purpose was to protect Egypt from the danger of the annual floods of the Nile, as before the Dam, the floods destroyed the crops and caused severe droughts depending on the water levels. It helped greatly in providing a steady supply of water for agriculture each year and also created one of the largest artificial lakes in the world.

The Unfinished Obelisk:

It is one of the most fascinating ancient monuments in Egypt. It’s believed to date back to the reign of Queen Hatshepsut during the 18th Dynasty and is located in the ancient granite quarries of the city of Aswan. During the building process, large cracks appeared in the granite during the carving process, and if it had been finished, the cracks would have caused the obelisk to fall apart, so the workers decided to abandon the site. Up till this day, the obelisk remains in its original place and gives the historians a great chance to study the ancient Egyptian engineering and stone-cutting techniques

Philae Temple:

Philae Temple is one of the several historical monuments that UNESCO has preserved in Aswan, as it has been moved piece by piece to preserve it. It was built during the Ptolemy reign and was one of the last places where ancient Egyptian religion lived on as Christianity came through the land when the Romans took over Egypt. Today, Philae Temple is considered a masterpiece of unforgettable ancient Egyptian architecture and engineering.

Kom Ombo Temple:

The dazzling temple is one of a kind, as it’s divided into 2 temples with 2 different entrances, 2 sanctuaries, and 2 hypostyle halls dedicated to 2 gods, Sobek and Horus. It was built between 180 BC and 47 BC during the reign of Ptolemy VI. The temple was an important center for healing and medicine in Ancient Egypt, with many detailed carvings on the wall showing medical tools and surgical instruments.

Back to the M/S Zeina Nile Cruise for lunch and some relaxation time onboard as the ship sails towards Edfu, enjoy the sunset over the Nile River, and spend the night on board the cruise.

Edfu Temple:

The Edfu temple was built during the reign of Ptolemy III and was completed during the reign of Ptolemy XII, the father of Cleopatra VII, and lasted 2 centuries. It’s a great mythical piece of art that preserves the memory of a great battle that decided the fate of the ancient world: the battle between Set and Horus. Large statues of Horus in the form of a falcon stand near the entrance and contain scenes showing kings presenting offerings to the gods.

After the trip, you will return to the M/S Zeina to enjoy lunch while the ship continues sailing towards Luxor through Esna Lock. The cruise arrives in Luxor around 16:00, enjoy a tasty dinner, and spend another peaceful night resting onboard.

Karnak Temple:

Built between 2000 BC and 30 BC by many rulers who added to it continuously, the Karnak Temple was dedicated to the Theban Triad, Amun, Mut, and Khonsu. It’s considered the largest religious site in the world. The construction contains a long avenue of ram-headed sphinxes that once connected the Karnak Temple and Luxor Temple during grand celebrations and festivals. The walls of the temple contain historical records of battles, victories, royal achievements, and religious beliefs.

Temple of Queen Hatshepsut:

The Mortuary Temple of Hatshepsut, also known as Deir El-Bahari, is not just a temple; it’s a declaration written in limestone, a statement that divine authority, power, and vision were never bound to gender. Hatshepsut was one of the most remarkable rulers in history and the first and only woman to be called a Pharaoh, a title that was reserved only for men at that time. The temple doesn’t rise in chaotic grandeur, but in a lovely touch of feminine influence in a measured harmony that still lives up till this day.

Valley of the Kings:

It’s considered the final resting place for the Egyptian Pharaohs from the 18th to the 20th dynasty during the New Kingdom. The Valley was built hidden in between the rocks in order to prevent thieves from stealing the goods and treasures of the deceased person. Some of the most famous tombs discovered in the Valley belong to King Tut, Seti I, and Ramses II. Visitors from all around the world visit the site to witness the greatness of the gate between life and the ancient afterlife.

Colossi of Memnon:

Two massive stones carved from quartzite sandstone are located on the west bank of the Nile in Luxor. They originally stood at the entrance of the Mortuary temple of King Amenhotep III during the New Kingdom era. The temple was ruined due to earthquakes and floods, and only the 2 statues survived. Archaeologists continue to study the site to understand the original mortuary temple complex. The surrounding area is still being excavated to reveal more remains of Amenhotep III’s temple.

Then we will transfer you to check in on board the cruise, enjoy a delicious lunch meal, and then continue to visit the marvelous Luxor Temple, which was used for religious purposes and festivals for many centuries. Return to your cruise to enjoy lunch on board while the cruise ship continues sailing towards Kom Ombo Temple, which is dedicated to 2 gods, Sobek, the god of strength and fertility, and Horus, the god of protection and kingship.

The cruise will continue its sailing towards Aswan, enjoy your dinner, and overnight on board the Nile cruise.
