5 Days Nile Cruise from Hurghada Itinerary

The cruise sails from Luxor to Aswan over four nights. On Day 5, return to Hurghada by first-class train to Qena, then by private vehicle.

Your journey begins with a private transfer from your hotel in Hurghada to Luxor. Upon arrival, your Egyptologist guide will meet you and accompany you to the East Bank, where your first archaeological discoveries await.

Karnak Temple

Begin at Karnak Temple, one of Egypt’s largest and most important ancient religious complexes. Dedicated primarily to Amun-Ra, the site developed over many centuries and contains monumental pylons, sanctuaries, obelisks, statues, and the famous Great Hypostyle Hall.

The hall contains 134 massive columns, including 12 central columns that originally rose to approximately 21 meters. Walking between these columns provides a clear impression of the scale of ancient Egyptian temple architecture.

Luxor Temple

Continue to Luxor Temple, located on the East Bank of the Nile. Much of the temple was built during the reign of Amenhotep III and later expanded by Ramses II.

The complex includes the monumental First Pylon, colossal statues of Ramses II, and a large courtyard and colonnade. Luxor Temple was closely connected with the ancient Opet Festival, during which the sacred images of the Theban triad were carried between Karnak and Luxor.

After sightseeing, board your cruise, enjoy lunch onboard, and settle into your cabin.

Meals: Lunch and Dinner

After breakfast onboard, cross to Luxor’s West Bank to explore some of the most important monuments associated with the pharaohs of the New Kingdom.

Queen Hatshepsut Temple

Visit the mortuary temple of Queen Hatshepsut at Deir el-Bahari. Built against the limestone cliffs, the temple is arranged across three broad terraces connected by ramps.

Its reliefs depict important episodes from Hatshepsut’s reign, including the famous expedition to Punt. The temple’s integration with the surrounding cliffs makes it one of the distinctive architectural landmarks of ancient Luxor.

Valley of the Kings

Continue to the Valley of the Kings, the royal necropolis used primarily during Egypt’s New Kingdom. More than 60 tombs and chambers have been identified in the valley, including the tomb of Tutankhamun.

Inside the decorated tombs, painted scenes and funerary texts reveal ancient Egyptian beliefs about death and the journey to the afterlife.

Colossi of Memnon

Conclude your West Bank visit with the Colossi of Memnon, two enormous seated statues representing Pharaoh Amenhotep III.

Each statue was carved from large stone blocks and originally stood in front of Amenhotep III’s mortuary temple. Today, they remain among the most recognizable monuments on Luxor’s West Bank.

Return to the cruise for lunch before sailing south toward Edfu.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner

Wake up onboard as the cruise continues along the Nile toward Edfu.

Edfu Temple

Visit the Temple of Horus, one of Egypt’s best-preserved ancient temples. Built during the Ptolemaic period, the temple was dedicated to Horus, the falcon-headed god.

Its monumental entrance, detailed reliefs, courtyards, halls, and sanctuaries preserve extensive information about ancient religious rituals and the mythology surrounding Horus and Seth.

After the visit, return to the ship and continue sailing toward Kom Ombo.

Kom Ombo Temple

Explore the unusual double temple of Kom Ombo, dedicated to two deities: Sobek, the crocodile god, and Horus the Elder.

The temple has a distinctive symmetrical design, with duplicated sanctuaries, halls, and entrances reflecting its dedication to both gods. Nearby, the Crocodile Museum displays mummified crocodiles associated with the ancient cult of Sobek.

After your visit, return to the cruise and continue sailing toward Aswan.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner

After breakfast, begin exploring Aswan, where ancient monuments and major modern engineering works stand along the Nile.

Philae Temple

Take a boat to Agilkia Island to visit Philae Temple, one of Egypt’s most important monuments dedicated to the goddess Isis.

The original temple complex stood on Philae Island and was threatened by rising water following the construction of the Aswan High Dam. As part of the UNESCO-led rescue campaign, the monuments were dismantled and reconstructed on nearby Agilkia Island.

Its courtyards, pylons, columns, and reliefs preserve scenes connected with the worship of Isis and the mythology of ancient Egypt.

The Unfinished Obelisk

Continue to the ancient granite quarries of Aswan to see the Unfinished Obelisk. Commissioned during the reign of Queen Hatshepsut, the monument was abandoned after cracks appeared in the stone.

Had it been completed, the obelisk would have measured approximately 42 meters in length. Its unfinished surface provides a valuable view of the techniques ancient stoneworkers used to extract and shape granite.

Aswan High Dam

Visit the Aswan High Dam, completed in 1970. The dam created Lake Nasser, helped regulate the annual Nile floods, expanded irrigation capacity, and became an important source of hydroelectric power for Egypt.

Return to the cruise for lunch and enjoy your final evening onboard.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner

After breakfast, check out from the cruise.

Your representative will escort you to the train station for your first-class train journey to Qena. Upon arrival, a private air-conditioned vehicle will transfer you back to your hotel in Hurghada, marking the end of your Nile journey.
